The Sheffield Popular Economy Desk was a collaboration between the Urban Institute and Urban Studies and Planning. It acted as a clearinghouse for research on the popular economy, network building, collaborative research, publications and seminars.

A central activity was the organisation of a Urban Popular Economy collective, which has enabled collaboration between Sheffield scholars and international partners, around key themes.
The collective considered issues of urban social reproduction, livelihood, and urban formations through a multiplicity of ground-level practices operating within and outside the prevailing logics of capital accumulation.
