Access+ offers opportunities and activities to support students from different backgrounds and circumstances who may face additional barriers and challenges on their journey to access study at Sheffield.
We’re here to help you discover more about university, support you during your application and transition to uni, and encourage you to achieve your potential.

What support is available?
As an Access+ student, you’ll have access to support such as:
- A dedicated team on hand to answer your questions
- Expert online help and guidance sessions to support you in your journey to higher education
- The opportunity to apply for an Access+ Transition Mentor
- Our Access+ Travel Bursary
- Our Access+ IT & Equipment Bursary
You'll be eligible for a contextual offer up to two grades below the standard A Level entry requirements for your course. You’ll need to have made Sheffield your Firm choice with UCAS.
If you miss the conditions of your offer we'll still give your application additional consideration.
Who is eligible?
As part of our widening access activities (you may also be familiar with the term widening participation), we work with students who may face additional challenges and barriers on their journey to higher education.
The circumstances and backgrounds we consider for eligibility are:
- You live in a neighbourhood with a low rate of participation in higher education or an area of disadvantage
- You were entitled to free school meals
- You’re care experienced
- You're a care leaver
- You’re estranged from your family
- You have caring responsibilities
- You have parenting responsibilities
- You’re a forced migrant
