Amber Keegan

Previous Chemical Engineering MEng student and now PhD Researcher Amber Keegan took part in the swimming short course (35m pool) representing the University of Sheffield at the National BUC Championships.  She won a phenomenal three gold medals (400 individual medley, 200 individual medley and 1500m freestyle) and one silver (400 m freestyle) at the BUCS Championships. The 1500 m was also a club and Yorkshire record making the 24-year-old Great Britain’s 11th fastest woman all-time in the 1500 m.

Amber commented:

"I swam personal best times in all of my events and that was really exciting because my previous best times were set in 2016, then I was injured and ill for 2017 and 2018, then covid came along and wiped out 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.  It's so good to be back, I'm having so much fun racing this year."

"The fact that I'm swimming faster than ever is a testament to all of the hard work I've put in (even when I didn't have the opportunity to show that in races!). I'm really excited for the National Winter Championships and to see what I can do with the rest of this season! It's an exciting year for British sport, especially with the Commonwealth Games being held in Birmingham next year. My plan is to continue working hard at Uni and in the pool and see what happens!"

Amber currently trains with the City of Sheffield Swim Squad and started swimming in her local swimming club when she was only 8 years old. She began competing in national competitions when she was 12.

Well done Amber!
