Chasing Sheffield's Rain shadow
It appears to be common knowledge that it rains less in Sheffield than on the other side of the Pennines. The reason for that obviously seems to be the presence of the Pennines and the existence of a rain shadow influencing the weather in Sheffield. However, is it really that clear-cut? One of our recent BSc graduates, Alex Stockham, made the below (short) documentary about the effect. It turns out the effect is real, but the reasons behind it are less clear than they initially seem. The full documentary can also be found here.
Alex made this documentary as part of his MSc in Science Communication. More information about this degree can be found here.
