Sarah Leggett: MEng Civil & Structural Engineering

Sheffield gave me the opportunity to become a well-rounded Engineer. I have learnt how to apply my understanding of engineering principles in practice. The lecturers were friendly, helpful and encouraging. They always took the time to explain things that weren't understood.

Civil Engineering graduate Sarah Leggett.

The course contains a mixture of individual and group project work, which has its challenges, and has stood me in such good stead as I have gone into industry. There are so many ways to get involved. It has been great to see how the course has evolved to keep up with technological advances and leading research, and watch others thrive as a result.

I now work in construction for Laing O'Rourke as a graduate Engineer on the Northern Line Extension Project in London. I am working towards my professional qualifications with the Institution of Civil Engineers. It is an exciting time to be an Engineer. I am grateful to the Department for giving me the skills to be part of it. I wanted to be a Civil Engineer to fulfil my potential and make a positive impact on the built environment and improve the lives of others.
