Your degree will be industry-relevant, making you highly employable, and ensuring you become the kind of engineer the world needs right now; forward-thinking, interdisciplinary, environmentally conscious, and capable of the kind of complex thinking our rapidly changing society needs.  Here are ten reasons to study with us:

1. We're one of the top 50 civil engineering departments in the world.

We're ranked 47th in the world and 7th in the UK according to the QS World University rankings by subject (2022).

2. We're the 8th best civil engineering department in the UK (Complete University Guide).

We're 8th in the UK according to the Complete University Guide (2021).

3. We're the 11th best civil engineering department in the UK (Times).

We're 11th in the UK according to the Times Good University Guide (2021).

4. We produce satisfied students.

89% of our undergraduate graduates were satisfied with their course (4th in the Russell Group), according to the latest National Student Survey (2020/21)

5. We make employable engineers.

Graduate prospects for undergraduate UK students are 93%, according to the latest Graduate Outcomes 2017/18 survey.

6. We don't ask for a science A level.

Unlike lots of other civil engineering departments, you don't have to be studying a science A level subject to apply for our undergraduate courses. You need to be studying maths and two other subjects. Our 1st year teaching covers the basics you'll need. Visit our course pages for full entry requirement information.

7. Our research is world-leading.

We're in the top 4 in the UK for research excellence (Research Excellence Framework 2014).

8. Undergraduates get to take part in our unique, award-winning Integrated Design Project.

Student feedback consistently rates this 3rd year project, which mimics the design process in industry, as the best and most valuable part of their course.

9. Undergraduates get to study in the Diamond.

This £81 million interdisciplinary teaching building gives students the chance to get hands-on learning in state of the art labs, develop skills on industrial scale equipment, and study in over a thousand study spaces.

10. We're international, diverse and welcoming.

With 25% female students in our undergraduate cohorts, and 20% of our academic staff women, there's a stronger gender balance here than in many other engineering departments. We also have staff and students from over 40 countries, so no matter what your background, you'll feel welcome.
