Your arrival location is: The Wave - the Sheffield City map below will help you locate the building on campus.

There will also be lots of open day staff and ambassadors around campus to assist you.

If you arrive late for your booked session, please report to the general information stand on the Students’ Union concourse, where event staff will be able to help.

When booking, you'll be able to reserve a place for yourself and one guest at the department activities. To ensure safe venue capacities, the department will be unable to accommodate any additional unbooked visitors.

Life as a Social Sciences student workshop - this part of schedule is designed to give you a real feel for what its like to be a Social Sciences student here at Sheffield and you'll have the chance to take part in two activities:

Activity 1 - Get to know our current Social Science students

From what their are favourite social science topics are to how they settled into their first semester - you’ll have the opportunity to hear from current students about their experiences of Sheffield and ask as many questions as you like about the course, study and student life!

Activity 2 - Interactive subject taster seminar

You will participate in an interactive Social Sciences seminar delivered by one of our academic colleagues, and joined by some of our current students. Together, you’ll think about the different ways that crime is reported, described, and understood, and you’ll reflect on the different meanings that this has. What can we learn from different sources of data about crime? And what can we trust?

In-between each activity you'll be able to have a short comfort break.

Sessions for your supporters - while you’re in the workshop, your supporters will be able to join two sessions focussed on how we support our students through their studies and a deep dive into the practical skills and learning experience the course will deliver, along with sharing some of the career paths the course could lead to.

Session 1 - Supporting our students

This session will focus on how  the School and the university supports students throughout their learning experience.

Session 2 - Social Sciences skills, learning experience & careers

This session will explain some of the specific practical/transferable skills students learn on the course, learning experience/teaching through years 1,2,3 and what specific career paths the course could lead too. The session may also include the chance to hear from a Social Sciences alumni.

Both sessions will include the opportunity to ask questions.

25 minutesNetworking and session close - Final conversations and a chance to ask ambassadors and academic colleagues any final questions - the session will also feature a showcase of current students’ work.Networking and session close.
