Your next steps
We look forward to welcoming you to the School of Geography and Planning. Here you can access your Welcome Week timetable, information about getting started with your studies and how to contact us, plus how to join a live Q&A session with your Geography and Environmental Science student societies.
Welcome Week
Your induction week (also known as Welcome Week) is Monday 23 to Friday 27 September 2024.
To welcome you to the University and to Sheffield, there are various events where you can meet staff and students from the School of Geography and Planning, and receive information about your course.
Access your Welcome Week timetable
If you have any problems accessing your welcome week timetable please contact geography@sheffield.ac.uk
Many of these events appear in your iSheffield app (Student login required). Download the iSheffield app and register. Once registered, you can find event information and a personalised course timetable.
Your Welcome Week finishes on Friday 27 September with a Welcome Walk, from Endcliffe Park to the Fox House Inn in the Peak District.
Pre-arrival question and answer session - Geography and Environmental Science student societies
Before your course starts, consider attending a question and answer (Q&A) session. These will give you a chance to ask any questions you have about registration, module choice or what to expect from your programme.
Sessions are entirely optional and will be held online via Google Meet.
Join the session at 4pm UK Time on Thursday 19 September.
If you have any problems accessing the session or have any questions please contact geography@sheffield.ac.uk
Residential Field Class to Peak District
If you're studying Geography or Environmental Science course, you will participate in a residential field class in the Peak District during week five or six. We recommend you bring appropriate footwear and clothing for being outdoors in the Peak District.
Optional module choice
As part of your registration with the university, you can choose optional modules. Use this guide to see what's available to you in the coming year of study.
If you are undecided with your choices, don’t worry - you will learn more about the course and meet module leaders during Welcome Week.
Contact us
The Learning and Teaching Support office is your first point of contact during your time as a geography student. If you have a question or need help, the friendly and experienced team will be able to help, or direct you to the right place.
The office is open 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday and is located on floor C of the Geography Building.
