Sheffield in top 50 worldwide for Geography

The University of Sheffield has been ranked 43rd best in the world for Geography, according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019.

The University of Sheffield has been ranked 43rd best in the world for Geography, according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019. The University was also ranked in the top 20 places to study Geography in Europe, reflecting the world-leading research and excellent teaching.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject rank the world’s top universities in individual subject areas, covering 48 subjects as of 2019.

Evaluating over 1,200 universities across 78 countries, each of the subject rankings is compiled using insight from over 83,000 academics, over 42,000 employers and 150 million citations from 22 million academic papers.

Overall, the University of Sheffield has been ranked as the 13th best institution in the UK and 75th in the world, a rise from the previous placing of 82nd.

The Department of Geography has an internationally-recognised record of academic research by staff with wide-ranging interests in both human and physical geography. Geography at Sheffield is ranked within the top 15 UK departments following the results of the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF).

We are one of the largest departments in the country in terms of undergraduate numbers, and places on courses are amongst the most sought-after in the UK.
