Rachael Norman has just received her BA in English Literature and Modern Languages and Cultures (German) and in addition to her First class honours she was awarded the prestigious Gibbons Prize for the best performance among all Arts and Humanities students.

Rachael has really made the most of her degree, which gave her the opportunity to compare English and German literature and to spend a year abroad, during which she taught English at a secondary school in Bonn and studied German literature for a semester in Heidelberg.

In May this year, Rachael was successful in making it to the finals of the prestigious creative writing competition organised by the Austrian Cultural Forum and the Austrian Embassy. Beyond her literary interests, Rachael has also learned Luxembourgish and, as a committee member of the University’s Trampolining Club, participated in many trampolining events and competitions.

I have absolutely loved my time at the University of Sheffield. I’ve grown so much as a person these past four years, developing both academic skills and life skills, met so many incredible people and collected memories which I will treasure for the rest of my life. I could not be more grateful to the staff who have supported, guided and encouraged me every step of the way. I’m so excited to start the next chapter!
