My time as an academic rep has really added to my experience of the MA programme, staff really do listen to what students have to say, and I feel as if I've really had an opportunity to make a difference.

What made you want to take a History MA degree? and why did you choose this programme at Sheffield particularly?

I chose to stay at Sheffield because I already had amazing and helpful tutors who I knew could support me through my Master's degree.

What has your experience been like so far? and what are you particularly enjoying about studying your MA programme here?

The MA programme has really allowed me to grow as a person and as a historian, giving me the opportunity to revisit topics I loved during my A-level study and undergraduate degree and discover new ones, all within a supportive and inclusive environment.

What advice would you give to others considering postgraduate study?

To anyone considering postgraduate study I'd say give it a go! After my third-year dissertation, I was so tired I wasn't sure if I was ready to take on another year, but it's been the best decision of my life I've learnt so much and met so many intelligent people.

Have you got involved in history research events and/or any other extra-curricular activities? if so, what do you think this has added to your time here?

The research seminars have been a great way to meet historians from other universities and gain experience of what it's like at an academic conference. My time as an academic rep has really added to my experience of the MA programme, staff really do listen to what students have to say, and I feel as if I've really had an opportunity to make a difference.

Do you have plans for after graduation?

After I've graduated, following lots of encouragement from my tutors, I plan on applying for a PhD and pursuing a career in academia.

Is there anything else that you want to say...?

As a student with learning difficulties, I can't speak more highly of Sheffield. The university not only funded my assessment but has provided endless support since my diagnosis, with exam adjustments, deadline extensions and advice whenever I needed it. As an equality, diversity and inclusion rep in the history department, I've also had the opportunity to see behind the scenes and witness the genuine effort staff make to gather and respond to feedback about how to make the university more inclusive.
