Young people and mental health: a psychosocial model for Education

Researchers in iHuman and Critical Psychology and Education in the School of Education hosted an event which brought together practitioners, leaders and researchers from across social, health, education, city councils and local authorities.

A number of key themes emerged including:

  • A need to contextualise the lives of young people, and their mental health, in wider framings of community.
  • An urgent requirement to understand and challenge the stifling impact of austerity and cuts on the services offered to young people.
  • A requirement to think about how we speak of, speak with, write about, listen to children and young people (Billington, 2006).
