My name is Esther-Mariam Temitope Matthew. I joined the University in May 2019, as a Business Analyst on the Student Lifecycle Programme (SLP).

I've worked on various projects within SLP, such as assessment maintenance, student engagement and monitoring and I'm currently working on the admissions process.

Something I view as unique about me is my neurodiversity, which enables me to be methodical and logical in handling tasks. I have never allowed myself to be restricted, and have instead developed any feelings of limitation into strengths. It has only served to empower me to achieve my goals, and have a determined, analytical approach to my work.

My engrossment with numbers has led to me having the following degrees:

  • Foundation degree in Business Management from York College
  • BA in Accounting and Finance from The University of Sunderland
  • MSc in Accounting and Finance from Leeds Beckett University

I am also a member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Youth work, and inspiring the development of young people, is my passion and is something I’ve been closely involved with for over ten years with my local community in York. Whilst growing up in Nigeria, I learnt the important lesson that my beginnings in life would not define me. It is always possible to aim higher, and achieve great things. Fortunately, my environment did not limit me, and I wish the same for each young person I have the privilege to work with.

Through volunteering as a youth leader, I have mentored and supported many under 18s within my community. It has been wonderful to see how these young people have gone on to become professionals in their own fields of choice, and lead happy, fulfilling lives. Each week, for the last ten years, I have dedicated two evenings of my time to the work with youth. I have found that, through my willingness to volunteer both my time and energy, I have been rewarded with joy, and been a witness to young people achieving their own goals and dreams.

In the spare time that I manage to get for myself, I enjoy cooking exciting dishes from around the world, and spending quality time with both family and friends.

My future career goal is to specialise in optimising pension contribution and retirement benefits.
