  • Professor David J Beerling FRS, founder and Director of the Leverhulme Centre for Climate Change Mitigation
  • Dr Miatta Fahnbulleh, Chief Executive of the New Economics Foundation
  • Professor Jim Hall FREng, Professor of Climate and Environmental Risks in the University of Oxford
  • Vanessa Nakate, climate activist from Uganda and founder of the Africa-based Rise Up Movement

Climate Conversations: Ocean Carbon Dioxide Removal

A conversation about the social aspects and potential role of ocean carbon dioxide removal in addressing climate change.

To combat climate change, in addition to reducing emissions, we will also need to remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. Ocean CDR (ocean carbon dioxide removal) is a set of strategies to sequester carbon dioxide in ocean waters.

Sarah Cooley (Ocean Conservancy) moderated a conversation between Holly Buck (University at Buffalo) and Nick Pidgeon (Cardiff University) about social acceptance, environmental governance, and other issues around ocean CDR strategies.

LC3M Director, David Beerling, joins the panel of expert scientists on the exciting launch event for this world-first carbon sequestration field trial, unveiled today, by The Carbon Community.

Charles Nicholls, co-founder and trustee of The Carbon Community, hosts the online event discussing the inspiration, design and assessments involved in this landmark project which aims to uncover a new reforestation approach, involving co-deployment with enhanced rock weathering, to help accelerate and enhance the sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in trees and soil to tackle the climate crisis.

COP24: Saving Ourselves with Rocks, Crops and Soils

Professor David Beerling, University of Sheffield, presents us with his current research into how we might trap gigatons of Carbon, using rock waste from previous mining, and a technique called ‘enhanced weathering’.
