IDC research engineer Lisa is polishing miniature gears ready for etching, in order to determine the effects of various machining parameters on the finished part. Etching will reveal the altered structure of the brass on the surface, caused by the machining process.
Microscope
Who doesn't love a good microscope? This one, in the materials preparation lab at the University of Sheffield, is great for very quick observation of samples during processing.
