Return to Campus (RTC) Information (Covid-19) for existing Sorby Centre Users

(last update 12 April 2021)

We are continuing to implement a range of additional measures to ensure researchers and staff can work safely within the Sorby Centre during the current return to campus period. This page provides details and links to information regarding what is required to resume access to the electron microscopy facility and the additional safety measures in place. All researchers (PhD, PDRA and staff) should have prior formal approval to return to campus from their respective departments and faculty RTC coordinators.

Sorby - Return to Campus Induction and Check List

Existing researchers who are already registered users via the Blackboard portal must complete an additional short Return to Campus Induction module that will guide you through the required updated health and safety and other documentation, necessary to safely resume access the facility. At the end of the training module you will be asked to submit a short google form to verify you have read and understood the content of the induction.

(You will need your University of Sheffield login credentials to access this module)

Once your submission has been received you will be contacted by email to discuss any issues arising and confirm approval to book equipment.

Already completed the Return to Campus Induction – check out latest updates and Sorby Centre Announcements.

New researchers, or past users returning to the facility, must apply for access by completing an online Blackboard module through MUSE. To enrol on the Blackboard module you should first submit a new user request form.

Once enrolled on the Blackboard module you will be sent an email to confirm enrolment and instructions on how to complete the access application process.

All visitors, academic and service providers requiring access to the Sorby Centre should be agreed and coordinated in advance with the Facility Manager Dr Ian Ross.

Visitors will receive a site specific information pack and are required complete a pre-visit Covid-19 checklist.
