Dr Juanjuan Zhu with her commendation

We’re delighted that Dr Juanjuan Zhu has been recognised by the L’Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science as one of this year’s Rising Talents.  In an awards ceremony in London last night Dr Zhu was highly commended for her work in engineering.

On receiving her commendation Dr Zhu commented “The program aims to build female role models to inspire students to study and work within STEM.  I’m honoured to have been recognised as one of 5 highly commended candidates at the Awards and hope that my experience can encourage others within this field.”

The programme itself was devised to empower women scientists to achieve scientific excellence and participate in solving global challenges.  JuanJuan’s research aims to explain the fundamental mechanisms behind a machine’s tribological behaviour and transfer the knowledge to the industry and she intends to develop lightweight metal matrix composites and evaluate their performance when used in machines.

We congratulate Juanjuan and are proud of the contribution which she continues to make within our department here at Sheffield.
