Mechanical Engineering at Sheffield ranked First in the Russell Group

Students have voted our Department of Mechanical Engineering courses first in the Russell Group with 92% overall satisfaction according to the latest National Student Survey (NSS).

The National Student Survey asks students who are in the final year of their undergraduate studies - in this case, those that graduate this year - for their views on key aspects of their University experience including learning and teaching, assessments and feedback, academic support, learning resources and student voice.

We are delighted that our Department was deemed 1st in the Russell Group for all of these key survey areas.

I’m thrilled that our Department has been recognised as first in the Russell Group for student satisfaction.  It’s a great reflection on all our staff and it demonstrates just how important we rate supporting our students to become the best Mechanical Engineers that they can possibly be.

At 88% and 91% respectively for overall satisfaction relating to Teaching, and Learning Resources, these results are testament to the high quality of teaching which Mechanical Engineering students receive here in Sheffield. 

With academics who are recognised experts in their fields, and state of the art facilities in our Engineering building, the Diamond, Mechanical Engineering students in Sheffield are in a great position to really excel in their learning and future careers.

Other courses across the Faculty of Engineering that ranked amongst the best in the country are: materials science, aeronautical and aerospace engineering, materials technology, production and manufacturing engineering and computer science, which all ranked number one in the Russell Group

The annual league table has shown that overall satisfaction among University of Sheffield students across all faculties is two per cent above the national sector-wide average. The award-winning Students’ Union also saw a score that is 15 per cent above the sector average for satisfaction, which places it first in the Russell Group.
