The qualitative sub-study aimed to generate insights into the patient experience of recruitment, consent and randomisation as well as the experience of the MARS 2 interventions. Our findings suggest that patients perceived and derived benefits from taking part in the trial but experienced some negative consequences, such as increased uncertainty amplified by multiple care providers and unclear transition arrangements after the trial.
