Rat models of ageing and Parkinson's

Working Group 3 (WG3) focuses on rat models, as these seem to be better for modelling various aspects of Parkinson's Disease (PD). This group will focus on designing experiments to adequately study the effects of ageing on PD.

Aims

The aim of WG3 is

  • to reach a consensus on the prioritisation of tools, reagents, and rat models for studying Parkinson's disease (PD)
  • to identify protocols and operating procedures to Standardize which would enhance reproducibility in PD rat models
  • to determine the necessary behavioural tests and pathological assessments for characterizing PD in ageing rats
  • to define the criteria for "aged neurons" and explore the incorporation of ageing into rat models of PD
