Cydney Sturgess wins Prokhorov Prize for Outstanding Contribution to Research Culture

The 2016-17 Prokhorov Prize for Outstanding Contribution to the Research Culture and Life of the School of Languages and Cultures has been awarded to Cydney Sturgess.

Cyd has organised several major research events, including two Association for Low Countries Studies (ALCS) postgraduate colloquiums in London, a Sheffield colloquium on gender and European history, and a School postgraduate colloquium.

Until recently, she was the postgraduate representative for Women in German Studies (WIGS). She was made a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2016 and she won the Sheffield Students' Union Academic Award for Best PG Student Who Teaches in 2017.

Cyd’s doctoral research deals with discourses of queer female desire in Berlin and Amsterdam 1918-39.

She has already published or in press four journal articles and two book chapters as well as an entry in the Wiley Blackwell Encyclopaedia of Sociology. She has given five conference papers at UK universities and a keynote address at a Dutch Studies conference in Leiden.
