What is your job and the main responsibilities?

I work as a Marketing Project Manager. My responsibilities include managing and delivering our digital marketing projects within quality, time and budget requirements. I am responsible for defining the roles and responsibilities of team members and stakeholders, providing solutions to address changes, managing the execution and day-to day processes of our product marketing campaigns and activities, building effective partnerships with the planning team, sales team, GTM team and product team.

How has your MA qualification helped you in your career?

Having studied intercultural communication, I gained  a deep understanding of communicating with people from different cultural backgrounds, and managing cultural misunderstandings when it occurs.

What do you think is the most exciting thing you've done as part of your current job?

I think the most exciting thing I have done is when I was part of a launch event on video production. That was the first time in getting to know how a product launch event video gets made. The launch event video on YouTube had 1.7M viewers.

What is your greatest achievement to date?

I think in general, the greatest achievement was entering the smartphone industry and leading 4 projects within 4 months.

What is an average day like for you in your current role?

In summary, my average day is making sure the projects I am handling are on track, and dealing with any risks that might occur. 

What advice would you give to current students who are interested in pursuing a career in your field of work?

Be result-oriented. If you have a dream job in your mind, find the job requirements and work out your way to meet the requirements by doing extra-curricular activities and internships. Even if you didn’t get in now, one day you will as long as you don’t give up.

What were your previous academic qualifications?

Prior to my MA at Sheffield I studied English Literature. 

What were your career aspirations when you were younger?

When I was younger, I didn’t really have a career aspiration. But I think it’s common for young people not to have a specific career goal as they will gradually know what they really want along the way. 

What impact has attending an overseas University had on you?

The impact was pro-founding because it was the first time I had studied abroad. It let me see the world in a different way and gave me opportunities to try different things.

What advice would you give to young people considering University in the UK?

As far as I am concerned, people might have a different focus and concerns when choosing a University. But for me, I cared more about the academic reputation and environment, which made the University of Sheffield stand out. 

Why did you choose Sheffield? / What sets Sheffield apart from other Universities?

I chose the University of Sheffield because of its outstanding studying and living environment.

What other elements of University life/extra-curricular activities helped you to achieve success?

The experience of being a student representative really helped me improve my organizational skills and interpersonal communication skills by organizing the Professional Bridging Day and British Applied Linguistic Association Intercultural Communication conferences and other exciting events. 

Why would you recommend the University of Sheffield as a good place to study?

Along with the wholesome academic atmosphere, the University of Sheffield offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities where students can explore their interests and meet people from all over the world.

In one sentence, how would you describe the impact Sheffield had on your career and life after University?

It made me realize that life is full of possibilities.
