Happy 50th Birthday tribology

On 9 March 2016 we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the publication of the ground breaking report 'Lubrication (Tribology) Education and Research'.

iT-CDT students at IMechE London

This report, commonly referred to as the 'Jost Report', described the findings of a committee, chaired by Professor H Peter Jost and was organised on behalf of the UK government of the time.

It also coined the word 'tribology' for the first time and outlined dramatic financial savings that could be gained through the correct application of tribological principles, leading to global development and integration of inter-disciplinary studies in friction, wear and lubrication to form the subject of tribology as it is known and understood in 2016.

This celebratory seminar hosted at the IMechE London, traced the key developments in tribology over the last 50 years as well as looking at how the past can help shape the future of the industry.

iT-CDT Students attended the event to meet and listen to prominent academic and industry key experts in the field of lubrication, friction and wear, and world renowned experts discussing the development of tribology from its foundation to the current state of the art.
