Description

Cracked and Blessed - sound installation,

9am-5pm, 13 - 18 November

Sheffield Cathedral

A collaboration between writer Clare Fisher and musician Will Schrimshaw, 'Cracked and Blessed' is a multi-channel sound installation responding to ideas of openings and incompletions in the systems and routines that govern our everyday lives. A soundtrack of intimate sonic textures and fuzzy electronics accompanies Fisher’s text, which the algorithmic system governing the piece tries to play in a linear and orderly fashion. However, cracks and openings in the system allow subtle audience interactions to knock the system off-course resulting in new combinations of text and sound and the potential for new meanings to be found in the scattered contents of the system. This gentle interactivity explores how we generate meanings in the cracks and incompletions, the errors and inconsistencies, of the rational systems that seek to represent, govern and guide us.
