Sustainable development of the region
We’re driving sustainable development of infrastructure across the Sheffield City Region by proactively connecting partners with our research and knowledge and using our campus and city as a living lab.
Delivering clean energy
Through the University’s Energy Institute, we’re working to develop sustainable carbon capture technologies. Funding for a new £21 million Translational Energy Research Centre at the University of Sheffield will support the UK’s transition to a low-carbon economy, delivering the cleaner growth at the heart of government’s industrial strategy.
Maximising city centre space
ReNew Sheffield, a project launched in 2014 in collaboration with Sheffield City Council, promotes and supports creative interim uses of empty buildings in Sheffield City Centre for pop-up shops and other start-up businesses. Examples include Foodhall, Sheffield city centre's 'pay as you feel' restaurant tackling food waste, food poverty and social isolation.
Working with partners
We're utilising our expertsie and facilities to feed into local plans, such as the SCR Energy Strategy, to ensure sustainable development and growth across the region.
