We’re using our specialist knowledge and teaching expertise so that together we can meet the sustainability challenges and net zero carbon targets of the region. Ambitious plans, made together.
We're driving sustainable development of infrastructure across South Yorkshire, helping the region meet net zero carbon targets, proactively connecting partners with our research and knowledge and using our campus and city as a living lab.
Delivering clean energy
Through the University’s Energy Institute, we’re working to develop sustainable carbon capture technologies. Funding for a new £21 million Translational Energy Research Centre at the University of Sheffield will support the UK’s transition to a low-carbon economy, delivering the cleaner growth at the heart of the government's industrial strategy.
University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre
Our work aims to help local firms keep pace with sustainability opportunities by partnering them with engineers at our Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) to create better performing and more environmentally sensible products.
Measuring and understanding city resources
The University’s Urban Flows Observatory, part of a wider UK network, aims to develop a globally leading, dynamic understanding of the flows of energy and resource across Sheffield. This evidence base will support the development of sustainable and healthier cities.
Working with partners
We're utilising our expertise and facilities to feed into local plans with partners, facilitating regional collaboration such as the SCR Energy Strategy and the Regional Low Carbon Group, to ensure sustainable development and growth across the region.
