In the early morning of 23 October 2018, ahead of the royal couples’ meeting with HM Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace, Henriette Louwerse was invited to the Dutch ambassador’s residence in London to discuss current issues that reflect the close ties between the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

Continued Support

Dutch Studies at Sheffield enjoys the continued support from both the Netherlands Embassy in London and Flanders House, the Representation of the Flemish Government in London. On this occasion, the acknowledgement of and appreciation for the work of Sheffield academics and students was expressed in Louwerse’s royal invitation. In 2014 Louwerse was made a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau in recognition of her national and international impact in the field of international Dutch Studies.

The diplomatic mission of the Netherlands and Flanders offers regular financial support to Dutch Studies. In November 2018 they will support the visit of Dutch author and performer Johan Fretz, who will work with Sheffield students and read from his latest novel in a public performance. Flanders House regularly supports activities and events with Flemish authors, artists and academics. We are grateful for their financial and practical support.
