MA International Development student Alicia Thompson will be relay swimming the English Channel in aid of the London based charity Aspire tonight (Thursday 28th July) at midnight. Alicia's team - called Aspire Giraffes - is comprised of six swimmers, and they will take it in turns swimming an hour stint until they reach the other side of the Channel. Additionally, they are swimming without the aid of wetsuits.

The group are swimming to raise money for Aspire, a London-based charity who help rehabilitate spinal cord patients once they have been discharged from hospital. So far the team has raised nearly £10,500. They are aiming to raise £12,000 overall.

Alicia and her team visited Aspire's their London base in November, and they were moved by the stories of those whose lives have been changed for the better by the charity.
