As a non-academic staff member, I hadn't realised that Erasmus+ was open to me. I'd been thinking about ways to expand my networks, so I decided to visit the University of Amsterdam on an Erasmus+ programme, who, like Sheffield, are a research-led institution of similar size.

I spent two days in the HR and Communications teams. The best aspect of my visit was the ability to immerse myself in the institution and meet some fantastic people, whilst recognising that we are all facing similar challenges and can learn from each other. I felt proud to be able to share the great things we do here in Sheffield.

Ultimately, the experience is about joint sharing of good practice, learning from each other, forming networks and making international contacts - which is increasingly important. I would encourage anyone considering Erasmus+ to think about what you can give on the programme as much as what you can get out of it.

Watch staff talk about their experience in an academic placement and a professional services placement.
