Global Learning Opportunities in the Social Sciences
The Global Learning Opportunities in the Social Sciences (GLOSS) scheme aims to provide students at both undergraduate and taught postgraduate level with an innovative range of international learning opportunities that contribute to the Faculty’s commitment to promoting the internationalisation of learning and teaching.
GLOSS currently encompasses three initiatives: The Global Leadership Initiative, SIDshare and International SURE.
- The Global Leadership Initiative supports small groups of 4-6 high achieving students to attend a major international meeting or summit. Accompanied by an academic member of staff with research interests aligned to the meeting/summit, students have the opportunity to attend press conferences by leaders and ministers, review the latest policy documents, prepare media briefs, and contribute to blogs and social media.
- SIDshare is a student-run social enterprise that provides students with opportunities to engage in extra-curricular international development projects which promote engagement and partnership through knowledge exchange. Activities could include conferences, training events, outreach work, formal volunteering roles and international development projects with partner organisations.
- The Faculty International SURE (Sheffield Undergraduate Research Experience) scheme offers undergraduate students (normally at the end of their second year) an opportunity to become directly involved in the international research activities of the Faculty, take part in real life research projects in subject areas that are of special interest, and experience what it's like to work in partnership with academic staff or collaboratively in a research group.
