Stephen is a specialist in aid effectiveness, research impact, impact investing and sustainability strategy. He is the Managing Partner of 3B Advisory, established to channel investment to address global challenges and respond to the opportunities of meeting the needs of the world’s next 3 billion consumers.

Stephen works with investors, donors, universities and companies to develop and implement impact strategies and to assess, measure, address and report wide range of social, environmental and governance issues and impacts. He was an Impact Assessor in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) and has been a longstanding senior advisor to the Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI), the UK’s Aid Watchdog, since its inception in 2011. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and has a Master’s degree in Human Rights Law from Birkbeck, University of London.

During 15 years at KPMG from 2000-2015, Stephen managed global sustainability assurance and advisory engagements, established and led KPMG UK’s grant assurance services and represented KPMG globally at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. From 2013 to 2015, Stephen managed Braced, DFID’s flagship climate resilience programme, where he was responsible for the selection and oversight of £100 million of grants across 13 countries in the Sahel, East Africa and Asia aiming to directly help 5 million vulnerable people to become more resilient to climate extremes and disasters and to promote integration of disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation methods into development approaches.

Stephen is an investor, non-executive director and advisory committee member of several socially-impactful enterprises including: Cambridge Prosthetics – designing a new generation of versatile and affordable prosthetic limbs; Mobile Power – delivering off-grid power in sub-Saharan Africa; and WhatsMAD – building a media content streaming service enabling realtime engagement to address global challenges.
