The field of information and communication technologies for development is a highly interdisciplinary area with the ambition for social change. To ensure that work in this area avoids forms of neocolonial imposition and follows agreed ethical standards in research applicable across disciplines, researchers have participated in a two-year participatory process of deliberation and self-regulation, facilitated by Prof Dorothea Kleine (Sheffield University) and Prof Andy Dearden (Sheffield Hallam University). The resulting co-produced document was voted overwhelmingly to become the ethical standards for one of the leading conferences in the field, ICTD2022 which means that research presented at this conference has to be in line with the agreed standards. The standards are available in English and Arabic. Further information is here.
