International students - Fees and funding

Where to look for funding

The UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) provides advice and information about funding your studies.

UKCISA - UK student finance, scholarships, and other funding

Some international organisations such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) operate scholarship schemes, usually for developing countries. Details are available from the agencies or the Ministry of Education within each country.

Voluntary organisations, such as religious bodies and charities, sometimes award scholarships, though they can be limited in size and scope. Local newspapers and local British Council offices may also hold details of these schemes as they become available.

There are also a range of websites to help you identify and search for funding opportunities.

  • Blackbullion’s Funding Hub enables students to find additional funding for university and  include details about funds offered by companies, charities and other organisations. You will need to register to search for funding.
  • Global Scholarships is a platform for international students to search for scholarships around the world.
  • ScholarshipPortal enables you to find and compare scholarships for a range of student funding to cover expenses for international bachelors, masters and PhDs worldwide.
  • The Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding (AGPF) is available to help postgraduate students find alternative sources of funding, particularly from charities. Simply click 'login' if you are on campus or register using your student email address (ends in @sheffield.ac.uk).  If you are a prospective student, please email funding@sheffield.ac.uk to obtain a PIN.
