For international students, the University of Sheffield offers lots of resources to help you to adapt to this new environment, such as language classes which really help me a lot in terms of English speaking and listening.

What made you choose to study at Sheffield and your course?

A friend of mine, who had graduated from the University of Sheffield, strongly recommend me this programme since the course are extremely practical applied. The application of health economic decision modelling plays a key role to inform health care resource allocation decisions. The program also provides students with an in-depth understanding of the health
economics and modelling methods necessary to support some health care decision problems.

What are you enjoying about your first semester?

I love having discussions with my classmates in tutorials since people from different backgrounds have their own perspectives which stimulate me to think in a different way. Also, I really enjoy joining in a Give it a Go event which enables me to make friends from different countries and it is also a good chance to experience the local life. English Language Support Centre offers lots of practical classes for international students who want to improve their English ability in their leisure time. I’ve signed up for two classes and both of them help me a lot since I can learn more about how to speak more like a native speaker and some useful presentation skills.

What advice would you give to students considering studying at the University of Sheffield?

No worries! There are nice people here and teachers are willing to give their help. For international students, the University of Sheffield offers lots of resources to help you to adapt to this new environment, such as language classes which really help me a lot in terms of English speaking and listening. A number of societies and Give it a Go events provide students an opportunity to step out of their comfort zone and make new friends from different countries. You can find all kinds of supermarkets and restaurants in Sheffield and public transportation is also convenient. For people who want to have a high-quality student life, I believe the University of Sheffield would definitely be a good choice.

What do you hope to do in the future?

I plan to be a market access analyst in a pharmaceutical company. I believe my previous experience in Taiwan will help me to conduct a local pharmacoeconomics study which is important for health insurance coverage applications. My ultimate goal will be to find a management position in either government or a pharmaceutical company to lead my team to create a mutually beneficial situation for both sides.
