Czech
  • RUS113 - Czech Beginner 1 (AUTUMN) - 10 credits
  • RUS114 - Czech Beginners 2 (SPRING) - 10 credits. This module is a continuation of RUS113 - you must have taken RUS113 in order to take RUS114.

This module aim to provide a grounding in Contemporary Czech, concentrating on the language of everyday situations and the vocabulary and grammar needed to engage in them. 

The module is year-long starting in the Autumn semester and it is suitable for complete beginners; no knowledge of Czech is assumed.

Outcomes: By the end of the beginners’ course, students will reach a level equivalent to A2 in the Common European Frame of Reference for Languages. This means they will be able to: recognize and use the sounds and writing systems of the language; communicate in basic everyday situations in the Czech Republic, both in written form and verbally use and understand many of the basic grammatical structures of the language, including case, tense and aspect; control a vocabulary of 1,000 – 1,500 words sufficient for basic conversation,

Teaching: 4 communicative classes per week focusing on conversation, comprehension and grammar, and on the development of all four language skills - speaking, listening, reading and writing.
