Theme leads

Off

The Centre for Machine Intelligence (CMI) is a University-wide strategic initiative dedicated to the transformation and acceleration of our research, innovation and teaching via artificial intelligence (AI).

Currently, the CMI is in the process of appointing Leads for its four interdisciplinary research themes. The Theme Leads will work across different faculties and institutes and will play a pivotal role in furthering the CMI's mission to foster outstanding interdisciplinary research in and/or on AI at Sheffield and beyond.

  • Human-Centric AI - This theme will address challenges in social interaction, using AI for good and conforming to legal and ethical norms.
  • AI-Enabled Research - This theme will transform research across all disciplines by providing new methods for understanding a wide range of data (images, sound, sequences, etc.), detecting key or rare events in massive data sets, extracting new insights in scientific and health data.
  • Autonomous Systems and Robotics - This theme will enable a new generation of robots and other autonomous systems including bio-inspired solutions and their safe and secure adoption in applications such as healthcare, agriculture and manufacturing.
  • AI for Manufacturing - This theme will enable efficient and robust manufacturing processes, novel design and production of chemicals and materials, and accessible AI-driven manufacturing systems.
