Who are we?

We are a dynamic group of scientists with a broad background not only in mass spectrometry, but also in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology and cell biology. We have experience in the analysis of sample from all of the above research fields.

We provide a wide variety of analytical workflows in our two facilities, biOMICS and chemMS, working and interacting together to offer excellent support for your research.

Biomics

Biological Mass Spectrometry Facility

The biOMICS Facility provides a full infrastructure for mass spectrometry based analysis of simple and complex mixtures of protein, peptides and metabolites, including their identification, characterization and quantification.

ChemMS

Chemistry Mass Spectrometry Facility

In chemMS, we can analyse relatively complex mixtures and pure organic compounds with liquid or gas chromatography, direct infusion, Atmospheric Solids Analysis Probe (ASAP) and MALDI coupled to mass spectrometers. Inductively coupled plasma (ICP)-based techniques are utilised to determine elemental ratios and analyse inorganic species.

The Faculty of Science Mass Spectrometry Centre is located within three departments – Animal and Plant Sciences, Biomedical Science and Chemistry – and two buildings – the Edwardian Building of the Firth Court complex and the Dainton Building.
