Apply for an intercalated BSc degree

BSc Medical Sciences Research application process

  1. Students to select their top three projects from the online projects.
  2. Submit an on-line application form for the BSc Medical Sciences Research including your academic grades and personal statement and your top three project choices via our application form by Monday 16th December 2019

Application form

  1. Meet with the supervisors of the projects and have an interview with them – the interviews will take place between the following dates Monday 6th January – Friday 25th January 2020 (external candidates can have their interviews via phone or Skype)
  2. The projects will be allocated based on a combination of supervisor and student preference and student will be informed of their application result in the week commencing 27th January 2020.
  3. A second round of project applications will open on Monday 3rd February 2020.

Apply for an Intercalated Masters degree

Most of our courses will accept applications up to May each year for intercalating students. This will vary depending on your circumstances and the capacity on our courses, therefore the sooner you apply, the sooner you could secure a place. You should also factor in any internal deadlines or processes with your university to confirm that you can be released to take an Intercalated Masters degree.

Medicine students registered at the University of Sheffield

  • You need to have successfully completed Phases 1, 2a and 2b of your Medicine course before the start date of the Intercalated Masters degree
  • If you are currently in Phase 3a, you will need confirmation that you have successfully completed your PBAs to date before you leave to intercalate
  • You need to have a three year average GPA of 4.0 or higher
  • If your GPA is lower we may still consider your application subject to successfully completing an interview.
  • If you are an international student, you must also meet the course English language requirements as specified in the prospectus.

You must have a confirmed offer and approval for being released for an Intercalated Masters degree by 31 May.

Please contact Fran Oldale to request to be released for an intercalated masters degree.

You should only request to be released for an intercalated masters degree once you have accepted an offer onto your chosen masters course.

Medicine students applying from another university (external applicants)

  • You need to have successfully completed at least three years of your current Medicine course before the start date of the Intercalated Masters degree
  • You need to have a three year average GPA of 4.0 out of 5.0 (where your course is graded differently we will consider equivalent grades)
  • If your GPA (or equivalent) is lower, we may still consider your application subject to successfully completing an interview
  • If you are an international student, you must also meet the course English language requirements as specified in the prospectus.

As an external student, please ensure you are eligible to be released for an Intercalated Masters degree by your university. Timelines and processes will vary by university.
