Profile

I am a University Teacher in Medical Education and Programme Director for the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education. Over the past 12 years, I have been Programme Director and module lead across a range of postgraduate education provision.

Alongside my teaching, I have held a number of departmental and cross-institutional curriculum leadership, quality and teaching and learning enhancement roles, including being cross-institutional quality lead for personal tutoring and student experience.

Research interests
  • The influence of one-to-one conversational techniques on emotions and behaviours within medical education.
  • Emotions and behaviours – for example: self-efficacy, agency, motivation, confidence, resilience, goal-setting and achievement.
  • Selected one-to-one conversational techniques – for example: the solution-focused approach, solution-focused coaching and non-directive questioning.
  • Personal tutoring and academic advising in medical and/ or higher education
  • Effective boundary setting with students in medical and/ or higher education
