The University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) is partnered with many pioneering global companies including Rolls-Royce, Boeing and McLaren to revolutionise manufacturing and development.

The University’s four flagship institutes; the Energy Institute, Neuroscience Institute, Healthy Lifespan Institute and the Institute for Sustainable Food, have been advancing and accelerating pioneering research to tackle the world's biggest problems since their creation in 2019.

The Institute for Sustainable Food has worked with Syrian refugees to develop a revolutionary way to grow food in discarded mattresses in refugee camps, while researchers at the Neuroscience Institute have launched an innovative gene therapy programme which could pave the way for novel treatments for neurodegenerative diseases like motor neurone disease (MND) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).

The Energy Institute has been finding low-carbon solutions to the world’s biggest energy challenges. Recently, it announced plans for a major new Sustainable Aviation Fuels Innovation Centre - the first of its kind in the UK with facilities to test, validate and certify new sustainable aviation fuels. Meanwhile, the University’s Healthy Lifespan Institute has discovered a link between heart disease and dementia.

The University has previously received significant recognition for founding the award-winning #WeAreInternational campaign, designed to show the value of international students across the UK, both from an economic, cultural and skills perspective. The campaign, which is now led by the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA), is supported by more than 100 UK universities and colleges, the British Council and the Home Office.
