University of Sheffield ranked within top 100 universities in 2022 QS World University Rankings

The University of Sheffield has been ranked among the top 100 universities in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2022, reaffirming its position as a leading global university for teaching and research excellence.

The University of Sheffield has been ranked among the top 100 universities in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2022, reaffirming its position as a leading global university for teaching and research excellence.

The results rank the University as 17th best in the UK, 95th in the world and second in Yorkshire and Humber.

The global ranking is the most-consulted independent evaluation of the world’s 1,300 top universities.

Expert opinions of over 130,000 academics and 75,000 employers contributed to this year’s rankings. 

Over 14.7 million academic research papers and 96 million citations were also examined to measure the impact of the research produced by the universities ranked.  

The QS World University Rankings, which are in their 18th year, also measure academic standards, employability records, research quality, teaching capacity and internationalisation.

The University’s highest scores came in the two internationalisation indicators: 98.1 for international student ratio, ranking the University 60th in this dataset; and 83.7 for international faculty ratio, demonstrating the University’s diverse community.

Professor Mary Vincent, Vice-President for Education at the University of Sheffield, said: “This reaffirms our position as a top 100 global university. The recognition of our diverse community, which includes over 140 nationalities on campus, reflects our commitment to ensuring our city continues to make staff and students from around the world feel welcome.” 

Announced on the same day (8 June 2021), the University of Sheffield has also risen four places in The Complete University Guide 2022 to 24th in the UK.  

The annual league table is aimed at guiding prospective students in their higher education decision making.

International scholarships

We offer a generous package of financial support for international students, including undergraduate and postgraduate taught scholarships worth £10,000 towards the annual tuition fee.
