Dr David Hollis, Lecturer in Organization Studies at Sheffield University Management School, presented an invited research talk at the Open University Business School.

Make up brushes and a palette.

Dr David Hollis accepted an invitation from Dr Nela Smolović Jones, founder and director of the research cluster Gendered Organisational Practice at The Open University Business School, to present his research at the school’s Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity seminar series. The presentation took place on 10 January 2024 to staff and doctoral students.

Dr Hollis presented and facilitated a discussion around his ethnographic research within the cosmetic industry, which centres how women makeup workers are subject to exploitation. His presentation connected with participants’ interest in the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly goal 5 (gender equality) and goal 8 (decent work and economic growth). Further, as a member of the Organisation Studies (OS) research cluster at Sheffield University Management School, his talk contributes to the cluster’s theoretical interest in relations of domination and critical methodologies.
