Research Practice Lead, Professor Joanna Gavins

We’ve recently appointed Joanna Gavins, Professor of English Language and Literature in the School of English, as our new Research Practice Lead.

Joanna will direct our support for robust, reliable and reproducible research. She will also work with the Open Research Working Group, as part of our membership of the UK Reproducibility Network.

Joanna replaces Professor Tom Stafford, who was our inaugural Research Practice Lead when the role was established in 2020 as part of the University’s commitment to the UK Reproducibility Network, and who has stepped down at the end of his term.

Professor Joanna Gavins said: “I am delighted to be appointed to this role and I look forward to engaging and working with colleagues across our University community and beyond on this crucial aspect of our research excellence agenda.”

Professor Sue Hartley, Vice-President for Research and Innovation, said: “I am very grateful to Tom for his excellent leadership in this area and the many enhancements he has achieved to our research practices. I very much look forward to working with Jo, who has a wealth of experience in applying these principles of best practice in her own research. I am sure that under Jo’s leadership we will further build on our support for our researchers to ensure that our research is rigorous and transparent and may be accessed and replicated as widely as possible.”
