Wonderful! The annual Spanish play goes zoom

Actors and directors all over the world have been rethinking how to deliver drama when you can't meet up. Our Spanish Society has found a way to bring you their annual play and the result is magical. We present: 'Alicia en el País de las Maravillas'

Our Spanish Society, La Sociedad Hispánica has a proud tradition of an annual play. This year we all had to work within the covid restrictions, but that did not stop the creative process.  On the contrary: the zoom play was born. The play's director, Eleanor Peake (BAMLC Spanish, Portuguese, Italian) describes the experience.

"Over the past few months I have had the pleasure of directing and editing La Sociedad Hispánica's annual play Alicia en el País de las Maravillas! With covid restrictions it was a challenge to figure out how best to get the play across on zoom, but thankfully I had a great cast to work with and after months of rehearsals, recording sessions and editing, we premiered the final product on 21 May 2021.

This experience has been so fulfilling and I have really enjoyed getting my head around the technology to make it happen. I look forward to seeing how next year's Hispanic Play pans out having also recently been elected president for the 2021/22 committee!

We have a rich history of theatre, music and other creative expressions in SLC. For example, our French students produced a radio play this year, in German the focus was on making green videos, and in Dutch students made podcasts discussing the 'urban pastoral' in children's literature.
