REF 2014 Results: Continuing Our World-leading Research
TRP’s continued world-leading contribution to research has been recognised in the results of REF 2014.
TRP's joint submission to Sub Panel 16 (Architecture, Built Environment and Planning) with colleagues in Architecture and Landscape at the University of Sheffield, 48% of TRP's research was assessed as 4*, representing world-leading quality and outstanding impacts, and 37% was rated 3* (Internationally excellent).
This represents an increase from TRP's 2008RAE outcomes, which were 35% 4* and 30% 3*. The proportion of TRP's work rated as 4* in the 2014REF was the third highest of all 45 submissions in our field and we were also ranked third on the research power measure. Using a grade point average measure, we were ranked 4th.
Head of Department Professor John Flint said;
“I am delighted that such a high proportion of our research has been assessed as being world-leading and having outstanding impacts and that a large further proportion of our research has been assessed as internationally excellent, meaning that 85% of our research was assessed in these two top categories of excellence. This is a reflection of the very high standards of work undertaken by my colleagues and confirms TRP’s reputation as one of the leading planning schools in the UK and the world. We will continue to produce distinctive, cutting-edge research that has major impacts on communities, business, practice and policy within an environment that supports the very highest academic standards.”
