The Entrepreneurial Award, which highlights alumni who have played a leading role in business innovation, was presented to Dr Lu Gang at a ceremony in Beijing on Saturday 25 November. Dr Lu is the founder and CEO of TechNode, a bilingual technology news platform that covers the latest developments and start-up stories in China. It reaches millions of readers every month and has become a trusted resource for the technology industry.
Upon receiving the award, Lu Gang said:
“Receiving this Award is a great prize and reward. I cherish the memory of studying in the UK to this day. I owe everything I have to my UK experience.”
The prestigious international award celebrates UK higher education and the achievements of alumni from UK institutions all over the world. Now in its fourth year, the award received more than 1,700 applications from international UK alumni in a record 123 countries, representing more than 140 UK higher education institutions across the UK. Following in-depth interviews with a judging panel, recipients were selected for the three award categories: Professional Achievement, Entrepreneurial, and Social Impact.
Carma Elliot CMG OBE, Director China at the British Council and Minister (Culture and Education) at the British Embassy in Beijing, said:
“The remarkable individuals we celebrated today at the Study UK Alumni Awards in China have all taken their UK education as a starting point to excel in their chosen careers and shape the world around them. This year’s awards ceremony is testimony not only to the diversity of UK alumni and their endeavours, but also to the transformative impact of a UK education. With more than 600,000 Chinese alumni of a UK education, there is much to celebrate.”
China is the first country to host the awards this year and will be followed by awarding ceremonies in a further ten countries, including Ghana, Pakistan, and the USA.
