Dr Neville Vincent Smith obituary
Born 1932, died 2016. A graduate of the School of Medicine.
Neville Vincent Smith grew up in rural Suffolk, deciding on a medical career after National Service when he was employed as a Medical Assistant on Troop Carriers during the Korean War.
Neville graduated in 1963 from Sheffield Medical School, receiving at the same time the Herbert Price prize for original research on aspects of the biochemistry of salicylates, an award of which he was extremely proud.
He followed a career in hospital medicine, mainly in Sheffield and Nottingham, including General Practice and as a member of the commissioning team for the new teaching hospital and medical school, now the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, where he worked for several years until retirement.
Throughout his career Neville maintained a keen interest in medical research and development, particularly enjoying sharing his knowledge with medical undergraduates and postgraduates in Nottingham. He was wise and kind to all with whom he had contact, patients and family, showing great courage and fortitude in his last short devastating illness.
