The challenge
To develop a robust and continuous pipeline of engineers progressing from internships to senior engineering roles, ensuring sustained growth and expertise within the company. We also aim to support interns in balancing their academic commitments while gaining practical industry experience.
What we did
Being based in Sheffield has been a key advantage, allowing us to access a strong pool of engineering talent and making us an attractive choice for students seeking hands-on industry experience. To build this pipeline, we established a close partnership with the University of Sheffield, offering structured internships that run throughout the year—not just in the summer. At any given time, OGC Energy has interns working alongside our team, gaining real-world experience while balancing their studies. Through our mentorship approach, interns receive guidance not just in technical skills but also in professional development, preparing them for careers in materials and corrosion consultancy, or any field they choose to pursue.
The result
This initiative has resulted in a steady influx of skilled professionals, with many interns progressing from second-year placements to master's graduates and eventually taking on senior engineering roles within OGC Energy. Our reputation as a company that nurtures and develops young engineers has grown, with many former interns taking their experience with us into their own career paths, making meaningful contributions to the industry.
