Engage with students

grad

Our programme of on-campus events includes a range of opportunities for you to meet students and graduates.

In particular over the next year we have a number of exciting events to allow you to introduce your organisation and raise your profile on campus.

Careers Fairs and Events

  • Asia Careers Fair - 5th - 9th March 2018
  • Careers Information Day - 14th March 2018

Our fairs are now open for bookings via Career Connect

Pop-up Employer

We can arrange for you to bring a pop-up banner stand and promotional materials onto campus and meet informally with students in high footfall areas.

Get to know our students

We can offer a number of initiatives.

  • Employer Appointments - as well as being good for general profile raising, Employer Appointments provide students with an opportunity to ask the questions relating to their areas of interest.
  • Department Careers Days - we work closely with the University‚Äôs five Faculties and can help you to engage with students in departmental careers days.
  • Global Careers Programme - are you looking to recruit our international students? The Global Careers Programme runs across the academic year, and is free of charge. Hold an on campus presentation or webinar and target it towards the region you are recruiting for.

Recruit and select

We can organise:

  • Recruitment and selection clinics - provide application advice and guidance in an informal setting to individuals and small groups of students. These early evening events are a great way to follow-up profile raising activities.
  • Interview rooms - we can provide interview rooms for you to conduct formal interviews on campus.
  • Telephone interviews - if you would prefer to conduct interviews by telephone then we can arrange this for you. We can provide a suitable room and meet with students in advance of your call to ensure that your schedule runs smoothly.

Give students a real-world perspective

Do you want to broaden students' skills? Why not consider:

  • Mock Assessment Centres - do you run Assessment Centres as part of your recruitment process? Why not take part in our Mock Assessment Centre day? You could provide a group or individual exercise or facilitate students as they gain valuable experience.
  • Mock interviews - why not help students to prepare for the real thing by hosting mock interviews on campus?
  • Employer led skills sessions - hold an interactive session and provide students in all years of study with the opportunity to learn about and practice key transferable skills, enabling them to develop 'The Sheffield Graduate' attributes.
  • Departmental talks and workshops - some departments have opportunities for guest lectures or skills workshops embedded within the curriculum.
  • Students projects - we can help you to arrange student projects in specific departments, or you could contribute to dissertation titles.
If you are a University of Sheffield graduate...

Careers Service eMentoring

There is no better way for students to explore their employment options than talking to someone actually doing the job. Our eMentoring scheme matches motivated students with mentors working in an occupational area of interest to them.

If you are a University of Sheffield graduate you can register as a mentor and share your valuable knowledge and experience while developing your own skills and strengthening your links to our pool of talented students.

Graduate case studies

The Careers Service is continuing to build up a database of case studies from recent graduates to provide an accurate and realistic view into the world of work.

We now have a database of over 1000 studies and these are a great help to our students planning their own careers as reading about the experience of graduates, especially those who studied the same degree subject, is both insightful and reassuring.

If you are a graduate from the University of Sheffield you may be interested in completing a case study. This may be produced as a podcast or you may prefer to submit one via our graduate case study database.

If you are unable to get onto campus...

If you are unable to visit Sheffield you can take advantage of our virtual services to meet and interact with students. This is especially useful for overseas organisations.

You can also make use of our University of Sheffield Careers Network LinkedIn group to network with our students, graduates and academic staff, as well as with careers staff and other employers. Launched in 2013, it now has over 3,000 members.
