Our goals are to consider how peoples' health and wellbeing can be defined, measured and improved in ways that help policy-makers determine the best use of scarce resources, and to investigate the determinants of well-being insofar as these are relevant to policy formulation.

Research in the Centre draws on a wide variety of disciplines within the University of Sheffield. Throughout its activities, the Centre aims to combine theoretical development with policy relevance. It is fully committed to building its research portfolio, and becoming a leading international research centre in a major UK university.

The centre is a truly interdisciplinary one, bringing together people from such disciplines as:
