Geographical Association Highly Commended Award for volcanic video teaching materials

Dr Tom Pering was part of the team that received the Geographical Association award.

Landscape of a volcano against a blue sky

A collaborative video effort between Time for Geography, our own Dr Tom Pering (a Lecturer in volcanology), and colleague from UCL, Dr Emma Liu, have been successful with the receipt of a highly prestigious Highly Commended Award from the Geographical Association. The video is a bumper tour of tectonics, lava, and different types of volcano. It uses some fun visual cues to help deliver these topics aimed at GCSE and A Level students which the judges thought would be instantly appealing to students and teachers. Also cited as strengths of the video were its accessibility and expert presenting. You can see this video on the Time for Geography website.

If you would like to learn more about volcanoes or are inspired by this video, then Tom will be delivering a lecture “Volcanoes: from inception to eruption” for the Geographical Association.
